I meant to write this post months ago, but pregnancy makes times fly. And even when time crawls by, you're too sleepy to write posts in a timely fashion. Apologies. I thought I'd do a little series of posts sharing the products that have helped me survive this pregnancy in relatively good spirits.

After suffering from Pelvic Girdle Pain in my last pregnancy, I decided to invest in a maternity support belt early this time. It definitely worked and I noticed a real difference in comfort when I was wearing my support belt during the weeks when my bump was first growing. I haven't worn it recently, but it was worth every penny during those first few months.

I had really awful nausea and sickness from week 10 until about week 16. A very wise friend suggested I try sparkling water and, I have to say, it changed my life. I went from feeling constantly sick to just feeling almost constantly sick. For some reasons, morning sickness completely put me off water and I was struggling to drink enough throughout the day, but sparkling water solved that problem for me. I'm still obsessively drinking the stuff now at 38 weeks. I'm pretty sure my huge bump is at least 80% bubbles.

I got through a lot of pregnancy tests during my first trimester. I think because my morning sickness kicked in later this time, I just kept worrying something had gone wrong. If I started obsessively worrying that I wasn't pregnant anymore, I just took another test. I know this is ridiculous and that whoever makes pregnancy tests is very rich because of me, but I needed the peace of mind.

I wanted a pregnancy app I could keep on my phone. Obviously, I decided to go with the one I wrote blogs for because I'm a narcissist. I really love the Pregnancy+ app, it has everything you need to get you through pregnancy. It even includes features like a contraction timer which I think is great because it means you don't need to download yet another app to take up room on your phone. And, of course, there are all those hilarious and informative daily blogs written by yours truly...

I love having books too, though so I wanted to have a couple of pregnancy books I could flick through. I bought this book when I first discovered I was pregnant with Ebony and I've looked at it a lot during this pregnancy too. I think it's nice to have something to look through each week just to remind yourself to focus on the pregnancy, especially when you're busy looking after an older child.

The latest science says prenatal vitamins are a waste of money and that women should instead simply take folic acid and vitamin D supplements. I took these vegan prenatal vitamins during the first trimester just to make sure I was getting enough of all the essential vitamins and minerals. They contain plenty of folic acid but, I have to say, they taste absolutely vile so I didn't manage to keep them down once morning sickness kicked in.

Finally, I couldn't have survived the first trimester without some decent nursing bras. My boobs were so sore that I needed to wear t-shirt bras to sleep in, so non-padded non-wired bras very much saved my life.

What were your must-have products for the first trimester?
