Maternity shopping is definitely my least favourite type of shopping. For a start, your size changes so much over the course of the pregnancy that it’s pretty much impossible to find something that will last you until the birth. Then there’s the fact that not many shops seems to stock a maternity section anymore so everything has to be ordered online. Online shopping is great but it’s tricky when you’re buying for a shape you’re not used to being. The bonus at least is that you can search for ‘Dorothy Perkins promotional codes’ before completing your purchase and you might actually manage to save some money.

When I was pregnant with Ebony, my mum took me maternity shopping and I bought most of my clothes from Dorothy Perkins, H&M and New Look. This time around, I’ve been lucky enough to have a couple of friends hand down their no-longer-wanted maternity items to me. Not only has this meant that I’ve had more clothes to choose from each day, it also means I’ve been able to try out different brands. For example, I can tell you with absolute certainty that the best place to go for maternity jeans is Next. I cannot stress how comfy the Next jeans I’ve been given are, and they actually look like nice jeans which makes a change from the pants I wore during my first pregnancy (cough yoga pants cough).

Summer pregnancies are definitely a different kettle of fish to that lovely winter pregnancy I once enjoyed (ok, fine, I didn’t enjoy it at the time, but only because I didn’t know how good my sweat glands had it back then). Luckily, I live in the UK so it has actually rained for most of the summer. But on those couple of weeks when it didn’t, I felt horrendous. It’s just way too hot to be lugging around an extra couple of stone. I don’t have enough maternity summer wear to cope with a heatwave so I found myself washing a vest top every night just so I’d have something to wear the next day. And don’t get me started on the difficulties of needing to sleep with All The Pillows whilst also being way too hot.

This is a collaborative post with My Favourite Voucher Codes. Don’t forget, My Favourite Voucher Codes donate 20% of their profits to charity, meaning you can shop safe in the knowledge that at least a little of your hard-earned money is going to a good cause.
