We Like to Read: "Slowly, Slowly, Slowly," Said the Sloth

I may have some kind of second hand book addiction, is that a thing? If it is, I have it. Ebony now has so many books that we haven’t even read them all. That’s bad, right?

Every day without fail, Ebony marches over to me with a book and announces “Knee! Knee!” We read the book, and then she takes it back to the shelf and chooses another one. There are some that are always in circulation, and others that fall out of favour.

“Slowly, Slowly, Slowly,” Said the Sloth by Eric Carle is one I seem to be reading lots lately. I found it in a charity shop a few weeks ago. I didn’t even know Eric Carle had written books other than the Hungry Caterpillar. This may be a bit controversial, but I don’t really like the Hungry Caterpillar, I don’t think it’s very enjoyable to read. But I like sloths, so I bought this book anyway.

I’m glad I did because the pictures are beautiful. They are the same style as the Hungry Caterpillar, but there’s much more going on. There are lots of different animal characters, and the background is colourful too.

I like books with repetition, and “slowly, slowly, slowly” is said so much that Ebony has now added the word to her vocabulary. She likes reading the book, and joins in whenever I say “slowly, slowly, slowly”. I read this book to Ebony when we stayed at my friend’s last weekend. My friend then introduced Ebony to a soft toy called David Hasselsloth which both terrified and excited her in equal measure.

You can see the rest of this week’s we like to read posts over on Fritha’s blog.
